Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage
Daktari wants to educate and inspire children to care for their environment through the medium of a wildlife orphanage. Daktari was created by Michèle and Ian Merrifield, who registered it as a non-profit company in 2002. It is an organisation of people who care, not only for animals and nature, but also for those less fortunate than themselves. The word “Daktari” is an indigenous form of the word “doctor” – one who cares for life.

Harvard Project on Disability
The central mission of the Harvard Project on Disability is to support the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This landmark human rights treaty mandates that persons with disabilities enjoy the same rights as all other persons. The United Nations adopted this agreement in December 2006, and it became binding international law in May 2008. The CRPD commits countries to ensuring equality for persons with disabilities as well as to stopping discrimination against them. The CRPD offers an essential opportunity to improve the lives of the 650 million persons with disabilities worldwide.

TASH

Disability Related Policy in Canada
The Disability-Related Policy Website is a tool of the Disability and Information Technologies (Dis-IT) Research Alliance, headed by Deborah Stienstra at the University of Manitoba, and the community of disability organizations in Canada. The goals of the website are to build the capacity of the disability community to engage with federal and provincial/territorial governments in policy discussion and development related to disability supports, and to strengthen capacity of the community and governments to more effectively draw on the knowledge base of the disability community about disability supports needs, issues, best practice and policy options. These goals were expressed by disability organizations at meetings hosted by the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) and the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) in March 2004.

Job Accommodation Network
The Job Accommodation Network is a service of the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) of the U.S. Department of Labor. JAN is one of several ODEP projects. JAN's mission is to facilitate the employment and retention of workers with disabilities by providing employers, employment providers, people with disabilities, their family members and other interested parties with information on job accommodations, self-employment and small business opportunities and related subjects. JAN's efforts are in support of the employment, including self-employment and small business ownership, of people with disabilities. JAN represents the most comprehensive resource for job accommodations available. JAN's work has greatly enhanced the job opportunities of people with disabilities by providing information on job accommodations since 1984. In 1991 JAN expanded to provide information on the Americans with Disabilities Act. JAN consultants have obtained at least one Master's degree in their specialized fields, ranging from rehabilitation counseling to education and engineering. The development of the JAN system has been achieved through the collaborative efforts of the U.S. DOL Office of Disability Employment Policy, the International Center for Disability Information at West Virginia University, and private industry throughout North America.

European Union of Supported Employment

UN Enable - Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
The Division for Social Policy and Development of the United Nations Secretariat in New York is the focal point within the United Nations system on matters relating to disability. Within the Division, the Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities provides support to the work of the Ad Hoc Committee on a disability convention, deals with promotion, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the World Programme of Action and the Standard Rules. It also prepares publications and acts as a clearing-house for information on disability issues; promotes national, regional and international programmes and activities; provides support to Governments and non-governmental organizations; gives substantial support to technical co-operation projects and activities.

Employment and Disability Institute
The Employment and Disability Institute (EDI) conducts research and provides continuing education and technical assistance on many aspects of disability in the workplace. Researchers and practitioners at the Cornell ILR School with expertise in disability have helped companies, labor organizations, government agencies, schools, and communities throughout the United States and abroad to accommodate and integrate individuals with disabilities. The EDI team consults with policy makers, disability advocates, and rehabilitation program professionals. Also, EDI contributes to developing inclusive workplace systems and communities through methods such as engaging in research and producing scholarly articles, developing training materials, conducting training sessions domestically and internationally, and offering technical assistance on a wide array of disability-related matters.
